Aims2Cure Poker Tournament February
2010
Our last two Poker events have been a huge success. In March 2009 we
raised £5000 and the most recent held in The Village Hotel, Elstree on
4th February 2010 raised over £10,000.
In February 2010 our poker expert, Alex Frost ran the evening for 75
players. After a fierce knockout competition, the 9 finalists played on
and at 1.30am, Howard Daly was crowned winner and Jamie Rishover runner
up.
The prize money was split (a decision taken by the final 9) so every
one of the finalists took a cash prize home. The winner won £750 and
runner up £500.
We also held a fabulous raffle, the prizes being a complimentary
round of golf for 4 at The Grove on the world championship course and a
weekend away. An exciting auction of an Executive Box at the Tottenham
Hotspur Vs Arsenal match in April also helped boost our fundraising
efforts.
Thanks must also go to Lawrence Samuels of Yummies in Radlett who
indeed provided us with yummy snacks and to Daniels Bakery, Temple
Fortune and Parkway Patisserie, Temple Fortune for the donating
delicious cakes.
Thanks to all who attended, it was great to see so many familiar
faces (and some new ones) and we hope to announce the date of our next
tournament soon.
Aims2Cure Poker Tournament 25th
September 2008
In September 2008, we decided to hold a charity poker tournament at
The Holiday Inn, Elstree. We were able to do this through the hard work
of Alex Frost and Michael Lee from
My Poker League
who gave their time and expertise freely to run a very successful night.
We had 130 players and the evening began at 8pm. Throughout the
evening, 130 eventually became 10 and the final was played out on an
authentic and sophisticated poker table. By 2.30am the following morning
a winner had been pronounced and was presented with an amazing trophy
and cheque for £1000 (half of which he kindly donated back to the
charity).
Through our brochure, the raffle and the generosity of the players,
we are delighted to have raised £14,000, which is an amazing achievement.
Thanks to everyone who came and played and to all who donated to
Aims2Cure. Everyone had a great time and we are hoping to run another
evening next year. Watch this space!
