The Michele Elster Fund
History of
Aims2Cure
The Aims2Cure Committee was formed in January 1999 with the sole aim
of raising money for research into Multiple Sclerosis. We are continuing
the work of the Aims North West Committee originally established in 1978
to provide the salaries for Research Scientists in the Department of
Neuroinflammation at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London. Since we started in 1999, Aims2Cure have raised over £500,000 for
research into Multiple Sclerosis.
The Aims2Cure Committee is dedicated to continuing the outstanding work
of our predecessors. We are currently a group of ten young parents, and
we are all whole-heartedly committed to this cause. Aims North West
meanwhile, continue to support us with various events throughout the
year. Aims2Cure however, was launched with the aim of establishing a
younger branch of the original charity, to organise events which would
appeal to a younger audience and to increase awareness of Multiple
Sclerosis to the generation that it unfortunately most commonly strikes.

Objectives
Aims2Cure is governed by a constitution. We have a Chairman, Vice
Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer who are all re-elected every year. Our
objectives are:
- To promote medical research into the treatment of Multiple
Sclerosis, to disseminate the useful results of such research and to
relieve persons
suffering from multiple sclerosis or associated diseases.
- To provide assistance and advice to persons suffering from MS or
associated diseases.
- To establish research laboratories and clinics for the treatment
of MS or
associated diseases.
- To promote fellowships and engage research personnel for the
purpose
of research into MS or associate diseases.
- To co-operate with any other charitable organizations having
similar
objects to Aims2Cure.
Where our money goes
Aims2Cure finances research into the causes and abnormalities found
in the nervous system in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We sponsor research
scientists at two leading neurological institutions in London. These are
firstly, the Institute of Neurology at The National Hospital for Nervous
Diseases in Queen Square, London and secondly at the Institute of Cell
and Molecular Science at Barts and The London School of Medicine and
Dentistry in Whitechapel,
London. A proportion of the money which Aims2Cure raises is currently
donated to these two units for both research and equipment. The rest
goes to The Michele Elster Fund.
The Michele Elster Fund
In 2007 Aims2Cure established The Michele Elster Fund. Michele Elster
was a wonderful young woman who tragically died from MS in 2006. The
fund was set up to help other MS sufferers with their everyday lives by
alleviating some of the obstacles life may present. For example, we have
purchased a scooter to help with mobility, enabled a garden to be decked
so that an individual is no longer confined to the house and adapted a
car to help with journeys to and from school. This type of help is
essential and makes such a difference to the lives of MS sufferers and
with the blessing of Michele Elster’s family, Aims2Cure have been able
to make this difference.
